[0:00]Hello audience.
[0:03]So, you'll notice my camera is turned in
[0:04]portrait mode, which I don't do very
[0:07]often, but I'm going to try again. But,
[0:09]see, I can see that I'm not looking at
[0:11]the lens, and that's problematic. I
[0:14]portrait mode, it's just way better.
[0:16]Looks more natural to me, but I can't
[0:18]stare at that little dot. So, I look at
[0:21]my I look at myself when I'm recording.
[0:23]So, that was one of the reasons I
[0:25]started posting in portrait mode. But
[0:28]I'm encountering a technical issue that
[0:30]I can't seem to solve easily. So on my
[0:33]transmission section on my website, I
[0:36]was trying to make it so that if it was
[0:38]a portrait mode video, it would show the
[0:41]I frame that it's in and the right
[0:43]orientation, but YouTube just doesn't
[0:45]make this possible. So I'd have to use
[0:48]my own embedded um video player in order
[0:51]to do what I want to do. It's just a
[0:52]whole lot of work and craziness. And the
[0:55]simpler, easier solution is to just
[0:57]start recording in in landscape mode.
[1:01]So, I guess that's what we're doing.
[1:05]Just thought I'd get on this camera for
[1:06]a minute and talk about my life.
[1:10]Um, cuz it's an interesting place, I
[1:13]guess.
[1:16]So, let me think about what I really
[1:18]want to say here.
[1:22]It's first day of October.
[1:25]My favorite month. Probably my favorite
[1:28]month pretty much all of my life. I love
[1:30]autumn.
[1:32]The rains have returned to the coast.
[1:33]It's been wonderful.
[1:36]Just soft rain on and off for the last
[1:38]couple of days.
[1:42]Really loved it last year. So, I've been
[1:44]looking forward to it coming back. And
[1:45]here it is.
[1:48]Um, as everyone knows, the government is
[1:51]shut down, which is that affects my role
[1:53]as a volunteer for a federal agency. So,
[1:57]um, we've been told not to do any work.
[1:59]Some of our campgrounds are open, some
[2:01]are closed. It's, um, and some of our
[2:04]people are fured and some aren't.
[2:08]I was hoping I could move at least to
[2:10]the corridor where I'm going to be when
[2:11]I switch roles, but this wasn't
[2:13]possible. Once everything shut down, I
[2:15]just were told to stay still. So, that's
[2:18]what I'm doing.
[2:21]Um,
[2:23]been working on my homepage. Like I
[2:24]mentioned,
[2:27]there's a lot I'm doing on there that
[2:28]I'm very proud of. I'm going to share
[2:30]soon. Um, so I don't know I don't know
[2:34]if you know this, but all of my videos
[2:36]that I've been making on YouTube for two
[2:38]years are available on my website. You
[2:41]just got to go to rswfire.com,
[2:43]click on the transmission section. Um,
[2:47]you can find it at the top. You know,
[2:48]there's these little icons there, all
[2:50]these different sections. I've been
[2:51]doing a lot of work to this for the past
[2:53]6 months. Look for the one that says
[2:55]transmission. Just go to the homepage
[2:57]and scroll down a little ways. You'll
[2:58]see the section for it. Um, or go to the
[3:02]description of this video. There's a
[3:03]link that'll take you directly to this
[3:05]video on my homepage. And from there,
[3:07]you can just start looking around.
[3:10]So, I added a timeline feature. It's got
[3:12]this little bar and a whole bunch of
[3:13]little circles. Each circle is a
[3:15]different video. And if you hover over
[3:16]it, it'll show you what video it is.
[3:17]There's more I'm going to do to this,
[3:18]but that's the basics part for now. It
[3:21]looks better on desktop than mobile. I'm
[3:23]still working on some of the mobile
[3:24]stuff.
[3:26]So,
[3:28]if you really want to see what I'm
[3:29]doing, I would suggest that. Another
[3:31]thing I would say is that right now I
[3:34]don't have any of my videos from the
[3:36]past year since January when I started
[3:38]volunteering for the state parks. Uh my
[3:41]life from that point forward most of
[3:44]those are private right now. You can't
[3:46]see them on my website. So everything
[3:47]you can see is is older than that. It's
[3:49]from the beginning of my journey to um
[3:53]right before I started volunteering in
[3:54]January.
[3:56]I need to go through those.
[3:59]kind of need to do it with AI ideally.
[4:03]Um so that I can selectively decide
[4:04]which ones to make public versus um
[4:09]I don't want to say private cuz it's not
[4:10]that public versus um just like
[4:13]restricted access I guess.
[4:16]Um some stuff I need to do there. And
[4:21]um and the reason I mention this because
[4:22]when if you look at this timeline
[4:24]feature
[4:25]uh it won't look as indepth as it would
[4:27]if you're looking at an older video. So,
[4:29]go back here. Just go to the
[4:30]transmission section. Scroll down until
[4:33]you start seeing like like summaries of
[4:35]the videos cuz that was those are
[4:38]anything before January. Click on one of
[4:40]those and then you'll really see what
[4:42]these pages are supposed to look like.
[4:43]You'll see all kinds of data that that
[4:46]goes along with my videos. So, it gives
[4:48]you a transcript. It gives you a summary
[4:52]and just a whole bunch of different
[4:54]types of data that I'm working on with
[4:56]AI. That was all local model stuff. And
[4:58]it's fidelity isn't perfect, but it's um
[5:02]that was a start. That was back when I
[5:03]had my desktop working since on the GPU
[5:05]to that I can't use it. But I'm going to
[5:07]try maybe doing it on my on my laptop so
[5:11]that my current videos are also
[5:13]producing all the data that I had
[5:14]intended. But, you know, I just kind of
[5:17]stopped with that because what I really
[5:18]want to do is use a professional model,
[5:20]but those cost money. You got to pay for
[5:21]the API tokens and I just haven't been
[5:24]able to do that. But I'd really like to.
[5:26]That's
[5:28]it would be
[5:31]very revealing. And then there's some
[5:33]other things I can do from that stuff
[5:35]I've been thinking about for the past
[5:36]six months. There's a whole bunch of
[5:38]stuff that I'm doing here
[5:40]that I think has value, not just for
[5:42]what I've created for myself, you know,
[5:45]these two years of videos um
[5:48]and the technology that goes with it and
[5:50]everything I'm building over that, but
[5:53]these are all examples of tools that
[5:56]others could could have for themselves.
[5:59]Um,
[6:03]and that might be different. like they
[6:04]might have different needs than I, but
[6:06]you know, you can look at it and see how
[6:10]how these things could benefit others.
[6:13]And so eventually I hope to turn that
[6:15]into a kind of service where I'm where
[6:17]I'm creating tools like this for other
[6:19]people.
[6:20]And you know, like my field companion
[6:23]I've talked about on and off the there's
[6:25]just a whole bunch of stuff that
[6:26]eventually I think will be of real value
[6:28]to people, but I'm not being supported
[6:31]and I have no money and I can't even do
[6:33]everything I want to because even that
[6:34]takes money. You know, I can't pay my my
[6:37]hosting fees. I can't pay for API
[6:39]tokens.
[6:41]Um,
[6:44]so it's been difficult because I know
[6:46]what I'm trying to build here, but I'm
[6:47]having trouble building it because of
[6:50]um,
[6:52]uh, constraints that that
[6:56]just unfortunate.
[6:59]But, you know, um, at some point I'm
[7:01]going to sit down in front of the
[7:03]computer and I'll make a video from
[7:04]there just walking you through, um, the
[7:06]stuff that I'm doing on the homepage.
[7:08]But I didn't want to mention this
[7:09]transmission section because that's what
[7:10]I'm working on now. And for some of you
[7:13]who have been following my journey a
[7:14]long time in case you didn't know, my
[7:18]whole journey is there.
[7:21]And I'm creating new ways for you to uh
[7:25]interact with it and experience it. So
[7:27]after that, next I'm going to um I'm
[7:31]going to add some social features. So
[7:32]you could actually share those pages
[7:34]with others or you could leave a comment
[7:36]on those. Um, like I was saying in a
[7:39]video recently, this wouldn't I don't
[7:41]allow comments on YouTube, but on my own
[7:43]homepage, I will allow them. So, I'm
[7:45]going to make a whole new section on
[7:46]this. I've been thinking about this for
[7:48]a couple of days. I'm about ready to
[7:49]start building it. So,
[7:55]so I'm in a holding pattern right now,
[7:57]basically.
[8:03]Hope you all are doing well.
