[0:01]hello fellow
[0:02]humans I thought tonight I would talk to
[0:05]you
[0:06]about concrete examples of where I see
[0:09]fragmentation in people and Society
[0:12]because that's not something I often do
[0:15]and someone has been commenting on my
[0:17]videos where I touch on that and they
[0:19]seem to Value these concrete
[0:23]examples so I thought I I made a list I
[0:26]thought maybe we'll just go through that
[0:27]and I'll share with you
[0:30]the different ways I see it if if you
[0:33]just th across this video and you don't
[0:35]know me then this isn't going to make a
[0:37]whole lot of sense cuz I have my own
[0:39]vocabulary around this
[0:41]stuff you might find Value in it anyways
[0:45]but you know it's
[0:47]not I feel like this is more for those
[0:49]who have been following my journey for
[0:51]almost a year who understand me who who
[0:57]know what I went through to discover
[1:02]well I guess I would just call my base
[1:04]operating system the hardware that I run
[1:06]on versus what seems to be the normal
[1:09]way that people do which is more of a
[1:12]compartmentalized fragmented
[1:16]existence it's going to be a bit of a
[1:18]clunky video so just be patient with me
[1:21]cuz I'm going to reference a list up
[1:22]here and then I'm going to
[1:25]share whatever personal insights I can
[1:28]think of in the moment that will apply
[1:29]to it
[1:30]because I think that's the only way I
[1:32]can cover something this expansive this
[1:36]profound um in this way cuz I'm a stream
[1:39]of Consciousness vlogger or whatever so
[1:42]let's just let's just get started and
[1:44]see how it goes so the first one the
[1:48]first section here is social
[1:50]interactions and the first way that
[1:52]people show fragmentation is by
[1:55]defaulting to differences like they
[1:57]might focus on um
[2:00]age like that cashier or you know their
[2:03]status or their experience they're not
[2:05]trying to create a shared resonance with
[2:07]the person that they're talking to
[2:10]they're establishing dominance often so
[2:13]I'll give an example that happened to me
[2:14]recently I was at the laundry mat and I
[2:18]was just feeding this machine quarters
[2:19]and I said that out loud there's this
[2:21]woman next to me and I was like man just
[2:23]feeding this machine quarters and she
[2:25]immediately went into the spiel about
[2:27]how she has a washer and dryer at home
[2:29]and lives on 4 acres of land but the
[2:32]county won't let her um use it because
[2:35]of graywater regulations she was
[2:42]establishing dominance like she I don't
[2:45]how to explain that it's like she was
[2:48]deliberately she was saying she didn't
[2:50]belong there is what she was doing
[2:53]and it was like a a status thing for her
[2:56]and I just I I felt very sorry for her
[2:58]that she felt the need to to do this you
[3:00]couldn't just be at a laundry mat like
[3:02]like I'm I'm there I'm not you
[3:05]know it was pretty sad and and that told
[3:08]me a lot about
[3:14]her um another one are fragmented
[3:17]conversations this one's a little bit
[3:18]difficult to explain but it's more about
[3:20]how people tend
[3:23]to just focus on themselves so you're
[3:26]talking to someone they're not really
[3:28]hearing they're just they're
[3:30]just so focused on themselves that
[3:33]they're not even really engaging with
[3:34]the other person and it happens all the
[3:37]time um another one is divided personas
[3:41]that's where you don't act like yourself
[3:43]in all
[3:44]situations I do whether I'm at work or
[3:47]I'm at school or I'm at the store or I'm
[3:50]out hiking or I'm on this camera I am
[3:53]exactly myself all the time most people
[3:56]aren't like that they
[3:58]just have masks that they wear for
[4:01]different settings
[4:03]and honestly that one to me is is
[4:06]just a very puzzling one I don't know
[4:09]why people are like that I I've never
[4:11]been that way so I something I can't
[4:13]really relate to so the next section is
[4:16]in in technology and
[4:18]media first one is Alor algorithmic
[4:21]division which you know that's just such
[4:24]a common thing in our world now where we
[4:26]get put into these silos and these you
[4:29]know these these bubbles
[4:34]that prevent us from growing and just
[4:36]make us more divided I mean this is
[4:38]division as this is a very big part of
[4:41]our division comes in
[4:46]so and there are so many ways it
[4:48]manifest so I'm going to take my own
[4:49]channel I 15% of the people who watch my
[4:53]videos are my age 85% of them are older
[4:55]they're Boomers who are retired and
[4:58]looking for RV life cont content that I
[5:00]don't really talk about right so but
[5:02]this is how YouTube has classified me
[5:04]and that's what the algorithm does with
[5:06]my videos that's why my channel doesn't
[5:08]grow it's just stuck in this limbo State
[5:11]because
[5:12]YouTube
[5:17]has misrepresented me it's for whatever
[5:21]reason they can't seem to Target the
[5:23]right people who might actually resonate
[5:25]with what this channel is really about I
[5:27]mean it's sad but I I've been trying to
[5:29]work through that for a long time but I
[5:31]don't I don't try very hard because I'm
[5:33]not going to fight an algorithm I'm just
[5:35]not because that's a form of
[5:36]fragmentation I'm just accepting what is
[5:39]and you know trusting
[5:41]that over time the right people will
[5:44]find my content and maybe they'll share
[5:45]it and
[5:47]maybe at some point you know it gets
[5:51]shared with the Right audience and it
[5:52]actually helps my channel grow and then
[5:54]the algorithm starts adjusting itself
[5:56]like that's really the only path that I
[5:59]see from myself because I'm not going to
[6:00]sit here making thumbnails and
[6:03]optimizing my descriptions and you know
[6:05]I let AI do all of that I'm I'm not
[6:07]going to fragment myself in that way
[6:09]so the algorithm social
[6:12]media um that's a big one and you want
[6:16]to be aware of that
[6:19]because there are so many ways that it's
[6:21]harming you it's one of it's why I tell
[6:23]you guys to get off YouTube honestly
[6:25]that's the reason
[6:26]why um the next one's reduction of
[6:29]complexity and this is about
[6:31]polarization this is binary thinking so
[6:34]if you don't like my video you might
[6:36]leave a comment saying it's boring or
[6:37]stupid or I'm a hobo you know these are
[6:39]all recent comments I've gotten um a
[6:42]hobo who financed an $80,000 Irvine
[6:46]thought about that today these comments
[6:48]you know they'll get in my head and I'll
[6:49]think about them go ahead trolls you
[6:52]know I'll think about your comments but
[6:54]not in the way that you think it just
[6:56]helps me refine my thinking I love it so
[6:59]do your worst but that you know
[7:02]reduction of complexity that's
[7:04]where you're just oversimplifying things
[7:07]so you can't oversimplify my channel we
[7:10]talk about so many things on here even
[7:12]in an individual video but then you will
[7:14]find one thing in that video and just
[7:18]turn That
[7:19]Into You fragment it and I'm using you
[7:23]here and I'm sorry for that I know that
[7:25]that is a way of creating distance
[7:28]between me and my viewers and I'm not
[7:30]trying to do that but at the same time
[7:32]this is just how my language works I'm
[7:34]trying
[7:36]to when I say you I'm thinking about
[7:39]just people in general you know just
[7:42]from my experience from what I've
[7:43]experienced on
[7:45]here it's very important to try not to
[7:48]get into binary thinking because the
[7:50]world isn't really like that so and we
[7:53]do this all the time so take you know
[7:55]the Sun and the Moon we you know
[7:58]throughout history we have treat that as
[7:59]a binary thing but it's not actually
[8:01]true the sun is always out there the
[8:04]Moon is always out there just because
[8:06]the Earth is rotating doesn't mean that
[8:08]there's some kind of Duality between
[8:10]those two things it doesn't work that
[8:12]way that's reducing
[8:14]complexity and when we do that
[8:17]we're we're just not facing reality
[8:20]we're just not so in physical spaces
[8:23]that's the next section um first one
[8:26]Urban Design just the way the cities are
[8:29]are created you know homes are separate
[8:31]from nature workplaces are separate from
[8:33]rest um people are separate from their
[8:36]communal Gathering spaces like this is
[8:39]what I have written here
[8:43]like we fragment what should be
[8:46]whole it's a big
[8:49]problem um then ownership and boundaries
[8:52]that's you know the fences and the walls
[8:53]and the property lines just all the
[8:55]different ways that we divide up our
[8:59]land I'm not saying you shouldn't own
[9:01]land I've always wanted
[9:05]to but there's a difference
[9:09]between the way we do it and the way
[9:12]that a whole whole a person was who was
[9:14]whole who was holistic would do it
[9:17]like that's a tough one maybe we'll
[9:20]think about that some more
[9:22]someday next is in personal
[9:24]habits Okay so
[9:31]this is okay fragmented attention this
[9:33]is a big one nowadays right so every
[9:35]time a notification hits your phone
[9:36]you're looking at that notification
[9:38]instead of focus on whatever you were
[9:39]just doing you're fragmenting your
[9:42]attention all the time and that just
[9:45]decreases your attention span of course
[9:48]uh makes you more irritable makes you um
[9:52]angrier it makes
[9:56]you impatient it leads to the way people
[9:59]Drive which drives me nuts everybody
[10:01]tailgating and because our attention
[10:03]spans are so slow because
[10:07]or our attention spans are what is the
[10:10]word for that you guys know what I'm
[10:11]saying though um and it's also you know
[10:15]that impatience that comes in it
[10:19]just you cannot live a holistic
[10:23]integrated life when you put yourself in
[10:26]that kind of a state where you're just
[10:29]aggra ated all the time and you're
[10:30]impatient and you're
[10:33]frustrated that's no way to live but
[10:36]that's how everybody lives
[10:38]now and then compartmentalized
[10:41]emotions that's where you're you know
[10:44]this one kind of goes back to earlier
[10:45]theme but it's where where people will
[10:48]suppress their feelings depending on
[10:49]where they're at like work for example
[10:51]now I can understand that's a
[10:52]professional setting but you should not
[10:54]have to fragment yourself so much that
[10:57]your genuine emotions have to be put
[10:58]aside
[10:59]it should not work that way and I would
[11:02]never accept an environment that
[11:04]expected that of me because they're
[11:06]robbing me of my wholeness of my
[11:08]Humanity when they do that fight against
[11:11]that don't just accept
[11:14]it the next section is in language and
[11:17]thought so over
[11:19]categorization that's the whole good
[11:21]versus bad Us Versus Them nature versus
[11:24]human none of those things are truly
[11:26]divided it's those are artificial
[11:29]distinctions that's not
[11:30]how reality works this is all about
[11:33]reality fragmentation
[11:36]is is a way of obfuscating
[11:41]and
[11:45]um making reality more of an abstract
[11:48]thing it just
[11:50]it that's a hard thing for me to
[11:52]describe I'd have to think about it I'm
[11:54]doing this stream of Consciousness you
[11:55]know but it's it has to De with how we
[11:58]create artificial barriers and
[11:59]distinctions and divide reality divide
[12:02]everything there it's not good versus
[12:04]bad like I'm not like I'm going to use
[12:07]myself as an example here there are good
[12:11]parts of me and there are bad parts of
[12:12]me and that's not a value judgment
[12:14]that's just a recognition
[12:17]of what's real for
[12:21]me no one is all good or all bad it just
[12:24]doesn't work that way so why would we
[12:26]pretend like it does and then the whole
[12:28]us versus them thing like that is one of
[12:31]the most toxic things that we do as
[12:33]humans is putting people into different
[12:37]boxes
[12:39]and defining them as Friend or
[12:42]Foe we shouldn't do
[12:46]that um internal
[12:50]narratives so I don't really it's hard
[12:54]for me to relate to this one cuz I am
[12:56]fully integrated person I don't have
[12:58]this s sort of uh it's hard for some
[13:01]things that I see people do I just are
[13:05]so difficult for me to conceptualize
[13:07]because we're using different operating
[13:09]systems so I just I can't put myself in
[13:12]somebody else's shoes all the time but
[13:15]this is an examp
[13:17]so this is more about the way that most
[13:21]people
[13:23]compartmentalize their reality they put
[13:25]emotions in one box their ethics in
[13:27]another their intuition and
[13:29]another
[13:31]and there's just no coherence there you
[13:34]might feel one way about something and
[13:36]think a different way about that same
[13:39]thing and then you're you're there
[13:41]struggling to figure out what you
[13:43]actually what your actual truth
[13:47]is and that's very problematic you know
[13:50]obviously so the more coherent you can
[13:53]become on every single thing that
[13:55]matters to you the more integrated
[13:57]you're just going to become and
[14:00]the less struggle you'll have with
[14:02]yourself so it's very important to think
[14:04]about your internal narratives pay
[14:06]attention to them next is in nature
[14:09]human versus
[14:12]nature I mean look what we're doing to
[14:14]this earth we're just consuming
[14:16]everything and without a balance without
[14:20]treating it as the living system it
[14:23]is you know we treat ourselves as above
[14:26]it as Superior not a part of it
[14:31]it's leading to to major problems for us
[14:34]isn't it um then there's a seasonal
[14:36]disconnect that's where people don't
[14:38]live in sink with the natural Rhythm so
[14:40]I live in an RV if it's raining out I
[14:42]put on my ring gear and I still go
[14:44]outside most people like let's take
[14:46]winter for example they'll stay inside
[14:48]all winter long and that's just not
[14:52]healthy for you you have to
[14:54]embrace the natural rhythms of life it's
[14:57]seasons
[14:59]so next is in systems and structures I
[15:01]mean that's a big one obviously
[15:02]institutional silos Education Health
[15:05]Care
[15:06]government
[15:11]um that one feels like something that
[15:13]maybe needs its own video someday
[15:15]because you know our our systems are
[15:17]collapsing because of that and that
[15:19]would be like I could probably talk
[15:22]about that for hours uh economic
[15:25]priorities capitalism often encourages
[15:27]fragmentation break ecosystems
[15:30]communities labor and commodified parts
[15:32]I
[15:33]mean that's another one where it's just
[15:36]like okay we're
[15:38]just we don't even know how
[15:42]to like there's so much I could say
[15:44]about that I just feel like I need to
[15:46]get my thoughts in that organized to
[15:47]even begin to talk about it me in
[15:50]relationships transactional bonds um a
[15:53]lot of people you know they kind of keep
[15:55]score like you know you wronged me so
[15:57]I'm never going to let you live that
[15:58]down
[15:59]instead of focusing on shared growth or
[16:02]Mutual understanding like they don't
[16:06]they don't really support each
[16:08]other I see it all the time I see the
[16:11]way that people talk to each other the
[16:12]way their relationships are just very
[16:16]unhealthy
[16:19]and you know that's also a really big
[16:21]one because it matters how you talk to
[16:23]people it matters how you how you engage
[16:25]with them
[16:27]how not Hest superficial way though like
[16:30]this has to come deep from within you
[16:32]where you actually value that person so
[16:34]much that
[16:37]you are tuned into them just as much as
[16:40]you are in tuned into yourself and most
[16:43]people aren't like that they just
[16:45]aren't U misalign communication you know
[16:48]the same kind of thing it's
[16:55]where misalign communication it's where
[16:58]you're just like you're not hearing the
[17:01]other person you're so focused on
[17:03]yourself that it doesn't matter what the
[17:04]other person says you've already made up
[17:06]an opinion about them or you just don't
[17:09]care enough or whatever whatever the
[17:11]reason you're just not you're not
[17:14]engaging with that person as a whole
[17:16]person and it's sad to see it erodes
[17:20]intimacy and connection and it happens
[17:22]all the time so those are some of the
[17:24]ways um I don't know how helpful this
[17:26]was I it's actually quite long I hope
[17:29]that I'll be able to upload this that it
[17:31]might can be a challenge where I'm at
[17:33]but
[17:38]um when I break it down to the basics I
[17:41]just kind of say look it's addition
[17:43]versus division you can either add or
[17:46]you can divide and the choice is always
[17:48]yours and you know from the microcosm
[17:50]scale all the way up to our
[17:53]institutions um you can keep dividing
[17:56]things which you know you can only
[17:58]divide for so
[18:00]long or you can add and there's so much
[18:03]value in adding I hope this helps
