[0:00]hey fellow humans I am on to I'm on my
[0:03]way to the
[0:04]dentist I noticed that whenever I try to
[0:07]record from my jeep that there's a
[0:09]crackling noise in the background it
[0:10]wasn't always like that so I'm wondering
[0:12]if it was the cable and I replaced that
[0:15]so we're going to find out if this is
[0:16]better I hope so if it isn't apologies I
[0:19]would use my mic also except I need my
[0:22]GPS cuz I'm not immune to the changes in
[0:24]society so um I don't know I haven't
[0:28]figured out that yet thought about I
[0:30]haven't figured out a way to just U make
[0:33]this a better
[0:35]experience but whenever I'm driving I
[0:38]get introspective even more than I
[0:40]normally am and I just start thinking
[0:42]about stuff and feel like sharing it
[0:47]so I don't really have this planned out
[0:49]but I feel like I should well there's a
[0:51]let me just start here so Claude has the
[0:55]AI has picked up that there are some
[0:57]subversive elements to my content and I
[1:00]was surprised it notice them because I
[1:03]kind of I'm very subtle about these
[1:05]things and it just got me wondering you
[1:08]know cuz I find it amusing beyond beyond
[1:11]any
[1:12]words that I put these little subversive
[1:15]things in there and nobody notices them
[1:17]or at least doesn't comment on them so
[1:21]and I don't want to point it out
[1:22]directly because then it kind of takes
[1:24]away from it and I just just want you to
[1:27]know there's some little Easter eggs out
[1:29]there in my content and a I figured it
[1:31]out I don't know how it did that but it
[1:34]did I shouldn't be surprised I guess
[1:35]it's very good at pattern
[1:38]matching
[1:39]so the main thing I thought I would
[1:41]start with
[1:43]is I really think it's important to talk
[1:46]about this because I don't talk about it
[1:48]very often and that's that's what it
[1:50]means to be gay in this world or any any
[1:54]minority
[1:57]honestly I don't trust people no one I
[2:01]don't trust anybody and that's just
[2:03]informed by experience
[2:06]that's it's
[2:09]not how am I going to say this
[2:14]so I grow up in a world where I see how
[2:17]my sexuality is is received by by others
[2:22]so I'm going to give some examples so
[2:24]we're going to start with an author oron
[2:26]Scott Card he wrote the Enders Game
[2:28]series he wrote a series of books about
[2:31]this guy named
[2:32]Ender and they are some of the most
[2:36]beautiful Pros that you could ever have
[2:40]for
[2:41]understanding differences in
[2:44]others beautiful profound books I love
[2:48]these books not so much the first one
[2:50]the on that come after it when Ender is
[2:52]an
[2:53]adult some of my favorite
[2:55]books and later I learned that this
[2:59]man's extremely homophobic he he lobbied
[3:04]against people like
[3:05]me he's attacking my identity a core
[3:09]feature of my
[3:11]identity and it ruined those books for
[3:14]me I can't read them now and and I feel
[3:16]like I lost a friend because
[3:17]Ender felt like a
[3:20]friend and so there's one data point you
[3:24]know a person can have such a cognitive
[3:28]dissonance in their own mind that they
[3:29]can write these beautiful books that
[3:31]will bring me to tears and still Harbor
[3:35]that kind of
[3:37]hatred obviously there's the the other
[3:41]you know
[3:44]more visible forms of Patron right I
[3:48]mean they're everywhere and you and you
[3:50]can see it happening you know things
[3:51]were getting better and you can see
[3:53]things regressing again you know now
[3:55]they're attacking transgender people and
[3:57]they're saying there's too many letters
[3:59]in my community's little
[4:02]alphabets but you know what people don't
[4:04]think about when they say that they're
[4:05]not thinking about the fact that every
[4:07]one of those letters represents an
[4:09]identity lgbtq I a every one of those is
[4:13]a different identity that we have
[4:15]Embrace as part of our community because
[4:18]they deserve to be
[4:19]embraced and when you attack anyone in
[4:22]that alphabet in that acronym you're
[4:25]attacking all of
[4:27]us and there's just no room for that
[4:33]because it's not
[4:36]right no one in that group deserves the
[4:41]hatred and the intolerance and the
[4:43]discrimination and the fear that comes
[4:45]with living in a world like this so I'm
[4:48]looking at it from a very Western point
[4:50]of view that's the culture I live
[4:54]in and I just it really bothers me that
[4:57]people don't when somebody says
[4:59]something like there's too many letters
[5:00]in their acronym those letters represent
[5:03]an
[5:04]identity and that identity deserves to
[5:07]be celebrated and
[5:10]respected I think part of the problem is
[5:12]the way that we label it we we say
[5:16]things like bisexual
[5:18]asexual like they're putting sex right
[5:21]at the root of it and that's that is a
[5:24]small part of that identity I'm gang I
[5:28]have been self bit for
[5:30]decades so and I still identify as a gay
[5:34]because I
[5:36]am sex is not what makes a person gay so
[5:40]when straight people think about us and
[5:44]they just immediately go in their head
[5:45]to us having
[5:47]sex that's just
[5:49]reductive and it makes no sense to me I
[5:52]don't sit around looking at straight
[5:54]people and thinking about oh how they
[5:55]have sex with each other and notm it
[5:58]makes me a little uncomfortable
[6:00]um straight sex but I don't think about
[6:03]it this what does that have to do with
[6:05]me so why do straight people think about
[6:07]gay people having sex or any other
[6:09]identity it just it makes no sense I
[6:12]think that is just
[6:15]way it's just othering people that's all
[6:18]it
[6:21]is and it's frustrating
[6:25]because I don't trust people because I
[6:27]know people can't be trusted
[6:30]people have this ability to hold counter
[6:35]views at the same time like like that
[6:39]author um there are people who subscribe
[6:43]to me and think that that must make them
[6:46]a good person or something and then if
[6:49]they have a disagreement with me they
[6:50]start attacking my
[6:53]sexuality they turn to their religion
[6:55]and just start seeing all this crap in
[6:57]my channel
[7:00]and and like I'm so used to that like I
[7:02]I've experienced that all of my life so
[7:04]I know not to trust
[7:08]people and so I you know since I was
[7:12]very
[7:13]young I recognize the harm that these
[7:16]prejudices
[7:18]do I felt a kinship with black people
[7:22]way
[7:23]before
[7:24]like I truly understood their
[7:27]struggle um I grew up in Flint Michigan
[7:30]so you know there was a racial Dynamic
[7:33]there when I lived there when I was a
[7:34]kid and um and I heard how white people
[7:39]talked about them and I knew how wrong
[7:42]that was because that is the same hatred
[7:46]that they direct at
[7:49]me it's just so sad I want to live in a
[7:53]world where people aren't like
[7:55]that and it just boggles my mind that I
[7:58]don't live in a world like that
[8:01]like why people are this way and then
[8:05]you can go into all these other angles
[8:07]like I've said the internet is not good
[8:10]because people are not
[8:12]good that's just a fact if people were
[8:15]good the internet would be good there
[8:16]would be way less toxicity on
[8:19]it people make excuses for that stuff
[8:22]it's not
[8:24]okay it's not okay and you can't just
[8:27]ignore it because then it never gets
[8:28]better
[8:30]when people get on my channel and they
[8:31]start bullying me because that's what it
[8:34]is nobody defends
[8:36]me you know I'm just I just
[8:40]feel isolated like I've always felt in
[8:43]the real world and
[8:47]online it's just
[8:49]like why as a society have we accepted
[8:52]that I'll never understand
[8:55]it you know the last time I was at my
[8:58]dentist we were talking talking just
[9:00]casually and I had made a joke about how
[9:03]I once dated a coke dealer because I had
[9:04]recently made a video about that and she
[9:07]assumed that it was a
[9:09]woman which surprised me I'm like does
[9:12]she really believe that you know or is
[9:15]she trying to be polite like what's
[9:17]going on here and I actually took me a
[9:20]minute to come out and just say no it's
[9:22]a
[9:23]guy because that is just how
[9:26]deeply ingrained this idea
[9:31]um
[9:33]this this perspective I have of not
[9:36]trusting people you you just
[9:39]can't cuz you don't
[9:42]know what you're going to encounter and
[9:45]when you are in a group like
[9:48]mine it becomes a safety
[9:50][Music]
[9:52]issue I will never forget what happened
[9:54]to Matthew Shepard that shaped me
[10:00]when I was 21 years
[10:02]old and has never left me because that
[10:06]could have been me he he looked like
[10:10]me he was my
[10:14]age
[10:16]that that shaped me there is no doubt
[10:20]that me taking my
[10:23]claan I'm not feeling anxiety right now
[10:26]I took a quarter of a milligram that's
[10:27]all I ever took for a long time time
[10:31]but I was hoping that if I just gave it
[10:34]time my body would my
[10:37]brain my nervous system would adapt like
[10:41]it did when I stopped taking
[10:43]tramol maybe it
[10:47]would so I don't know I'm kind of have
[10:49]mixed PS about it I guess but you can
[10:52]definitely
[10:54]see a change in my mood you know my my
[10:57]interal state shouldn't call a mood it's
[11:00]just an internal State my internal state
[11:02]has been altered just some
[11:05]thinking just stopped and I got my oil
[11:07]chain so I'm proud of myself for that I
[11:10]don't like doing that which is weird
[11:12]because I actually worked at an oil
[11:13]chain shop once I kind of did it
[11:17]um almost like it was like an experiment
[11:20]to me I wanted to try something new so I
[11:23]deci said hey let's go work in an oil
[11:24]chain shop I had so much fun it was a
[11:27]blast but I did get oil my my eyes
[11:31]once now I have all these like loaders
[11:35]in my eyes I'm sure I think that they're
[11:36]probably related but it was a fun
[11:39]experiment I experience I I enjoyed that
[11:42]a lot but I don't like going to them
[11:44]because you know you got to drive over
[11:45]that over the pit
[11:49]and I'm just always convinced I'm going
[11:51]to get my tire stuck but of course I
[11:53]never
[11:54]happen uh it's just the way my brain
[11:56]works I'm always thinking
[12:01]about all the possibilities it's like
[12:05]it's like
[12:07]perceiving alternate realities all at
[12:10]the same time and and it's very
[12:11]stressful and you have
[12:15]to I don't know how other people do it I
[12:18]don't know if other people do that like
[12:20]do they I bet some do and then a lot of
[12:23]people are probably like able to just
[12:25]block that
[12:27]out but I better like lot of people
[12:29]don't do it at all which that would be
[12:32]like a much easier way to live in my
[12:36]opinion but I'm always like I was saying
[12:39]how I'm afraid of heights in my last
[12:40]video like I'm so afraid of heights that
[12:43]I can't even be in like a
[12:46]building anytime I lived in an apartment
[12:48]that was on the second or third floor or
[12:50]whatever and I would go down to i' lay
[12:53]down to go to
[12:56]sleep I would know that I was a above
[12:59]ground and like that just would
[13:01]with
[13:02]me not as bad as like me climbing up on
[13:05]top of my RV would be but it's just I'm
[13:09]so conscious of it all and I don't know
[13:11]how to turn that
[13:13]off maybe clown upin helps a little it
[13:17]definitely like Smooths my nervous
[13:20]system so that I can kind of function
[13:23]without like constantly thinking about
[13:26]how how much anxiety I'm experience
[13:30]in I was really hoping
[13:33]that I
[13:35]could oh The Scientist by Cold Play Oh
[13:38]God this song will break my heart this
[13:41]song will break my
[13:43]heart so
[13:45]yeah got a long drive ahead me I'm in a
[13:49]good mood so there are some things I
[13:51]haven't told you like that I've been
[13:53]thinking about
[13:55]like let me just turn this down a little
[13:59]it's a good song by the
[14:01]way
[14:02]um that truck driver I was telling you
[14:05]about I know that he recognizes what the
[14:07]older truck drivers are doing to him and
[14:09]he
[14:11]is capitalizing on it on purpose like I
[14:14]think they there's a little bit of
[14:15]exaggeration in some of the things he
[14:18]does because he knows that it's going to
[14:19]just irritate them which is called rage
[14:23]baiting and I respect it I I respect it
[14:28]I
[14:31]a little bit unethical I'll be honest
[14:32]that's a little bit unethical but I
[14:35]respect it man's got a million
[14:37]subscribers um and you know why I mean
[14:41]these people are irritated over him just
[14:44]being himself and it's like yeah
[14:46]with them why not I could do the same
[14:49]thing and and still be
[14:51]authentic um all I'd have to do is talk
[14:54]about some of the things that I know
[14:55]will get people all riled up but I don't
[14:58]do that that because I it's a challenge
[15:01]for me I actually have been thinking
[15:03]about this
[15:06]if my channel grows which I'm starting
[15:09]to think maybe that is
[15:11]possible it will be a slow growth you
[15:14]know it is it already has been but um
[15:17]you know maybe there's it reaches a
[15:18]critical mass at some
[15:20]point mine is not a typical
[15:23]channel so I don't know for sure if
[15:25]that's possible but I feel like I kind
[15:28]of Chan some of the Norms on
[15:31]here and you know there are a lot of
[15:34]different things I talk about that I
[15:36]think that are brought our audience to
[15:38]here like they need a new perspective
[15:41]so um and I was thinking about it I
[15:46]just um think I I think I unconsciously
[15:51]am kind of resisting that
[15:54]because uh I know what kind of attention
[15:56]that would bring so
[15:59]but then I was thinking about that I'm
[16:01]like okay so yeah you deal with a whole
[16:03]lot more trolling but you can just use
[16:05]that as a learning experience for others
[16:07]just see the buying that's happening and
[16:10]how it's wrong to just ignore it to act
[16:12]like you're just supposed to ignore the
[16:15]trolls because that's what we've been
[16:16]doing for decades and has that worked H
[16:20]has
[16:20]it no it hasn't
[16:25]so I don't know starting to think maybe
[16:29]there is a way to make a positive impact
[16:31]in the
[16:33]world by getting people
[16:36]thinking I don't know maybe that's a
[16:37]pipe dream very well could be so I was
[16:41]watching heart throbber yesterday I
[16:42]watch the whole second season binge
[16:45]watch the thing and I wasn't like the
[16:48]first season which was a lot more
[16:49]lighthearted and just heartwarming this
[16:53]one tackled some issues
[16:57]and I me to cry a couple times
[17:00]honestly um any movie or show they can
[17:03]do there is a good show in my opinion if
[17:06]they can movie to tears that's that's
[17:09]something worth
[17:11]watching but there was this this one
[17:15]part this one going to be copyright
[17:18]stricken they allow it they'll just pass
[17:21]the revenue on to them not like I get
[17:22]any rty soon
[17:26]um there was this one part where this
[17:29]girl um her mother didn't like what she
[17:33]was wearing to
[17:36]prom and it just got me thinking about
[17:39]the way that parents can be like my own
[17:42]included
[17:44]like they see their children as
[17:46]extensions of themselves and if those
[17:49]children have self-expression that
[17:52]differs from them I think they might
[17:54]take it as a rejection of them or
[17:56]something like this and um not always
[17:59]there's nuance and everything so some
[18:01]parents
[18:03]and like with my father I like if I I
[18:07]used to dye my hair all the time I used
[18:09]to bleach it I used to do all kinds of
[18:10]stuff to my hair and boy would he just
[18:13]just criticize me and yell at me for
[18:16]that because I wasn't being like him you
[18:20]know that's really what it comes down to
[18:23]and especially because I and I believe
[18:26]this because I do believe that he has a
[18:28]narcissistic
[18:29]personality and so he looks at his
[18:31]children as objects as extensions of him
[18:35]rather than
[18:36]independent people who are are going
[18:39]into who they're meant to be you know
[18:43]and I just think that is a very toxic
[18:46]poisonous way to raise
[18:49]children and so I wanted to bring it up
[18:52]because it's something that's worth
[18:54]thinking
[18:55]about if that's something you do
[18:59]please
[19:02]reconsider um because I can't tell you
[19:05]how damaging that was for me sorry we're
[19:08]going through some weird situation here
[19:11]so I mean like what was the big deal so
[19:13]I like to dye my hair that's worth
[19:18]criticizing making me feel
[19:21]like
[19:22]crap just another one of millions of
[19:26]interactions with that man that made me
[19:28]feel that
[19:33]way why is it that people can't just
[19:36] accept people for who they are
[19:38]why why can't they do that why is that
[19:40]so hard it's easy for me people are
[19:45]different everybody is different why the
[19:47] is it so hard for people to be like
[19:49]okay that person's different than me
[19:50]interesting and then move on I'll never
[19:54]understand it case is not clear I
[19:57]struggle with my feelings about Humanity
[20:01]because I know that they're well
[20:02]informed I know that they're honest I
[20:04]know that people don't want to talk
[20:05]about it but it's honest it's truthful
[20:09]it's
[20:10]reality and then there's the other side
[20:12]of that where there are actually good
[20:15]people and I like to think that I'm one
[20:17]of them so you know if there's one
[20:19]there's more
[20:22]and I really struggle with that because
[20:24]I actually don't agree with the
[20:27]sentiment that there are more good
[20:28]people than bad people in the world I
[20:30]don't agree with that I don't believe
[20:31]that's true
[20:32]anymore and
[20:35]so it's just a thing that I can't like I
[20:37]have really dark moments that you guys
[20:39]don't see like last
[20:42]night was trying to go to sleep and then
[20:45]I started chatting with Claude
[20:48]because um there was I don't remember
[20:51]the context of it but I
[20:55]just um
[21:02]like totally being bad constructions on
[21:05]I'm going way too fast so
[21:09]um whatever the context we just started
[21:12]chatting and then I just got very dark
[21:15]talking about my feelings about Humanity
[21:18]because they're very
[21:19]dark and I've never really told you guys
[21:22]like explicitly you know I kind of hint
[21:25]at it all but I honestly
[21:28]I just don't have an optimistic view of
[21:31]people and that's attention because I'm
[21:34]on camera I'm on
[21:37]YouTube sharing my life with
[21:41]people and so I I just
[21:45]it's something I don't totally
[21:48]understand like and I think it's because
[21:50]there's this faint hope that I have
[21:56]that I don't know maybe I'm wrong I
[21:58]would like to be wrong but I don't think
[21:59]I
[22:02]am I don't trust
[22:05]people I don't trust people because I
[22:07]have seen how people
[22:11]are I always have my guard up kind of
[22:14]tired of it though don't want to have my
[22:16]guard up all the
[22:18]time but I'm incapable of ignoring
[22:22]reality most people are capable of that
[22:25]for some
[22:26]reason which I mean I guess that's a
[22:29]survival mechanism I don't know maybe
[22:32]that's how they managed to survive in
[22:34]this
[22:36]world but I can't do that I can't
[22:40]ignore what's so obvious so
[22:48]apparent it's sad it's honestly very
[22:52]sad let me drive this point home for you
[22:55]so let me tell you what I was doing on
[22:57]911
[22:59]I was at
[23:00]home
[23:02]and it
[23:03]happened within 30 minutes I was on the
[23:07]computer trying to go to the World Trade
[23:10]Center website because as a programmer
[23:12]that was kind of where my thinking was
[23:14]and like that was probably in the
[23:16]building and of course I I think it was
[23:19]because it you know it timed out you
[23:20]couldn't reach the
[23:23]site and then the next thing I saw were
[23:25]Yahoo groups of thousands and thousands
[23:30]and thousands of hateful messages
[23:33]towards
[23:34]Muslims and I nobody on TV is talking
[23:38]about Muslims nobody knows what's going
[23:40]on it's only been 30 minutes and yet
[23:43]there are all these hateful messages
[23:45]towards
[23:47]them before any Vex were known and I I
[23:50]just I remember being shocked at the
[23:52]level of
[23:54]hatred and just my ignorance of how
[23:57]people felt about Muslims because that
[23:59]was like the whole thing was new to
[24:06]me I don't understand
[24:09]people I would never want to be like
[24:14]them if that is your reaction to a
[24:18]tragedy like
[24:20][Music]
[24:21]that and then all the things that
[24:23]happened after that like I remember the
[24:25]news stories of just average Muslim
[24:27]people in the country being
[24:33]murdered I don't trust people and why
[24:35]the would
[24:37]I here's a challenge for
[24:40]you wake up in the morning go throughout
[24:43]your day for one day monitor your
[24:47]thoughts and count the number of times
[24:50]you have a hateful thought towards
[24:51]somebody
[24:58]can you do
[24:59]that my recognition of what Society is
[25:03]like and what people are
[25:04]like had very deep impacts on my my life
[25:09]and in the direction of my life like I
[25:11]always wanted to be a
[25:12]teacher I think I would have been an
[25:14]awesome
[25:17]teacher and I didn't pursue that path
[25:20]because being gay I know how parents
[25:24]would have treated me and what they
[25:26]would have thought and how they would
[25:27]have acted
[25:30]and so it shaped my life I didn't become
[25:33]a
[25:34]teacher even though I could have helped
[25:37]a lot of kids to grow
[25:40][Music]
[25:41]up to be very good
[25:46]adults because that's what you need you
[25:48]need teachers who care I had a few of
[25:53]those but you
[25:56]know from this hatred that we had have
[25:59]we all suffer because of
[26:02]it in ways that you don't
[26:10]see this idea
[26:13]that there's just something wrong with
[26:16]the idea
[26:18]that conservatives are conservative like
[26:22]that word is a I hate that word cuz that
[26:24]doesn't describe them they're not
[26:26]conservative
[26:29]like they're really good at manipulating
[26:33]language you know other side of that the
[26:37]progressives all about progress right
[26:40]they sometimes take things too far I I
[26:42]admit that they
[26:44]do there are extremes on both
[26:48]ends I think that the people were just
[26:52]if they lived in reality if they looked
[26:54]at the facts if they considered
[26:58]the things that are underneath of the
[27:00]things that they're looking at they
[27:01]might have a better understanding of how
[27:04]to make this world
[27:06]better nobody wants to do
[27:11]that we just go into our corners
[27:16]and sit around with our
[27:19]tribes and just hate the other side
[27:22]that's what we
[27:25]do and that's never going to work
[27:29]and we know it won't
[27:31]work just keeps us stuck it keeps us in
[27:33]this pattern of stagnation
[27:38]and eventual ruin because this is
[27:42]not you got to look at it from A
[27:45]System's perspective this is not a
[27:48]system that can
[27:51]survive it's it's just not possible it
[27:54]will
[27:56]collapse because there's no other way
[27:59]for a system like this to function this
[28:02]kind of
[28:03]conflict is just ruinous and
[28:10]misguided I don't understand why we
[28:12]don't think about these things it's like
[28:15]we're in this
[28:16]world and we just accept it as it
[28:22]is I don't know how people do that cuz I
[28:25]never could I know what y'all are used
[28:27]to because I live in the same world as
[28:30]you you're used to perspectives that are
[28:33]a whole lot happier than
[28:35]mine but that's a
[28:38]lie and I will never accept that
[28:42]lie I don't know why so many other
[28:44]people
[28:45]do there's this Black Mirror episode I
[28:48]saw once where this guy was rallying
[28:51]against Society the problems he saw so
[28:54]they set him up in this decadent place
[28:57]that he lived where he could keep
[28:59]talking about those things and make zero
[29:01]difference in the world and I feel like
[29:04]him
[29:06]like I think about that when I start
[29:09]talking about these things I think about
[29:10]that
[29:12]episode cuz that's exactly what this is
[29:15]It's just so sad one of the Jeeps I gave
[29:18]a duck to at the dentist was here today
[29:21]I just pass it and my little duck is up
[29:23]on their Dash we call those little duck
[29:25]ponds very cool
